1Weekend eh ;) Thats my busiest time of social life. Last week it involved a Church visit [read more...], this week was for a more earthly cause, literally and figuratively :) There is an Earth Fest celebration going on in our city. Being the environmentally sensitive person that I am, I was there checking out what folks in the neighbourhood are doing to improve the environmental conditions around the city.
Now the Earth Fest was one place where I would have expected little or no Christian participation. But over the past few weeks I have come to expect liberal christians at the most unlikeliest of the places. I wasn’t wrong in my thinking, again a church was actively championing the cause for the ecosystem. I am glad that the liberal Christians don’t take the Genesis 1:26-28 too seriously.
Another thing I noticed [especially because I read the posts of Mike C.] was that Soujourner was partially sponsoring the event, and they were offering a 15% discount on “Fair trade products” to participants of the fest. Boy, was I impressed! I was like, Dude, they are bringing Christianity till my 95% approval rating. All they need to do is let go their views on ‘divinity of Jesus’, and the rating will jump to 100% ;). I know, thats not happening :) , but 95% is not too bad on Rick approval scale.
Thanks to Mike for posting about that magazine and thanks to all the Christians who take the bible verses a little less literally.

2Mike:
And what interesting weekends you have! Thanks for the reports! You said:
I am curious about why you were surprised to find Christians there. Is it that you expected that we would be disinterested or that we would somehow be opposed to environmentalism? Is it just the Christian=Conservative (and thus anti-”tree-hugger”) equation, or something else in your own experience that caused your negative perception?
Also, I imagine that the Christian folks that you met would say (with me) that they do take Genesis 1:26-28 extremely seriously, which was why they were there. That the damage that has been done, neglectfully or intentionally, was in violation of that passage. That being made “in the image of God” gives us the capacity to see that everything God made was “very good” and gives us the responsibility to be stewards of that goodness. But I guess it depends on what one interprets “dominion” to mean, and I imagine there are some Christians who think having dominion means to use up the earth as you will. Have you run across that sort? I don’t know that I have, but maybe they are on Christian TV. (I don’t do Christian TV).
