About Me (Ir)

Posted by Ir (Helen) on: 04.25.2006 /

First things first – the name I’ve been posting under here, Ir, comes from my middle name Irene. I suppose Ir must look ‘male’ because at first people here seemed to assume that I was a guy (which amused me greatly). I chose not to correct the misconception until a female poster intuited that I was in fact female.

I’ve had a website of my own since 1997. (If you happen to have read the ‘About Me’ page on there you’ve already read most of what follows)

I’m 41 and I’ve been married for about 18 years. We have two children, ages ten and thirteen. By choice, I’ve been a ‘stay-at-home’ Mom since my thirteen year old was born. I’m not really at home all the time but I expect you know what that means…

I love music, especially classical; I play the piano and violin and my children are learning those instruments also (with private teachers – I’m not their music teacher). Ok, I just have to share this - My husband has a page of audio recordings of them playing here

Other things I love: mountains, lakes, waterfalls, reading, cats, people who are relaxed and can see the humorous side of life.

I was born and grew up in England. I moved to the Chicago area with my husband Steve after graduating from college (I like it here except I wish it wasn’t so flat!) My Dad is British; my Mom is American (first generation; her parents are German Jews who left Germany and settled in the US in the early 1930s).

There’s a little other information about me in my introduction on the discussion board.

I appreciate Off-The-Map inviting me to guest blog for a few days. I hope I’ll manage to post a few interesting, thought-provoking entries!
