Guest Host Eliza

Posted by Eliza on: 05.08.2006 /

Hi, everyone - I’m Eliza. I’ll be guest hosting for a few days this week. For those who haven’t ‘met’ me, you can link to the Discussion Board to read about my background and how I came to my beliefs.

I’m a physician (in general internal medicine, at a teaching hospital and clinic) with a science background (in chemistry), am married to an electrical engineer; we have a 7.75 yr old son and 13 yr old dog. We live in the Seattle area.

Unlike most of the other atheists posting here, I was raised without belief in God. I call myself a skeptic, which to me does not mean I’m cynical – just interested in examining information from different sources and weighing it for myself, in accordance with the laws of the universe as described and reproducibly tested so far, knowing that there is a lot more we humans have yet to learn & understand.

It’s been a pleasure to read and learn about so many points of view, and so many thoughtful ways of approaching these issues, from the people at this site. Thanks to all of you for your involvement here!

Eliza, congratulations on hosting. I find you very settled in your atheism/skepticism because you live in a region of the US that is much less religious than some of us. So Jim, when is Jayson or David or myself, the blunt atheists, going to host?

TXatheist, I can’t speak for anyone else, but speaking for myself, if anyone wants to be a guest blogger, I’d be interested to hear why and what they think they can bring to the blog that furthers the goals of it.

Thanks, everyone! I find it hard to come up with something reasonably cogent to say on the fly, when responding to someone, but give me enough time to mull it over and eventually a few ideas pop out!

TX- regarding your question about Guest Blogging:
Jim is listening but he has put me in charge of the blog so I will answer.

Briefly. We have tried to alternate Atheist/Christian Guestbloggers to keep
things switched up from week to week. The primary factor we look for is people who have a track record of consistently friendly interaction with people of ‘belief systems’ other than their own. The second consideration is availability.

It’s your blog, your requirements and I do thank you for answering.

I for one would be pretty interested in TXAtheist guest-blogging (if I get a vote), especially in light of his EXCELLENT recent “church service review”.

Thank you Peter, whether it happens or not or if this blog goes on forever and I do get to, I’ll take note of your point with gratitude.
