The Sinner’s Guide to the Evangelical Right

Posted by Ir (Helen) on: 11.28.2006 /

My Mom bought me this book over Thanksgiving. (How better to celebrate being with family than all going to a bookstore together, right? ;-))

She pointed it out to me and I was intrigued, having first seen it on the internet a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for blogs with entries about Mark Driscoll (I’ve posted about him on CatE recently). and ran across The Sinner’s Guide to the Evangelical Right blog.

I’ve started reading the book and I’m favorably impressed that it has lots of actual quotes and references in it. In other words it’s an informed rather than an uninformed rant. I’m learning some interesting things from it. The blog is interesting too (imo). I won’t deny that it’s mean - but I still find the content on it interesting.

Back in February I enjoyed reading this and other related blogs and having the opportunity to meet some thoughtful and amazing people if only through the web. Though time restricted any continuing involvement I would have like to have had, I will occasionally have the chance to read the on-going discussion and I continue to enjoy this exchange, thank you to all that have and continue to participate.

Having open dialogue with others expressing a variety of backgrounds and beliefs was a privileged experience for me. Out of that experience I got to meet Cully Long of NYC. Upon discovering his line of work (set design in the theatre district) I stumbled upon his personal artwork. I work for a non-profit, faith based gallery in Houston, Texas and felt that the pieces Cully had sampled on his flicker site would be a great fit for our gallery and invited him to have a show. This Friday, December 1st, Cully’s show “A Lines- Scenes from the Subway” opens at Xnihilo Gallery (with over 115 original pieces). Though the subject matter isn’t directly related to “the e-bay atheist,” I’m thrilled that the open dialogue continues in various expressions around the country.

If you’re in the Houston area or “close enough,” I hope you can make it Friday evening for the opening reception to meet with Cully and others for what’s promising to be a great evening.

[...] After that last post, here’s a blog that’s much better. (Via the eBay Atheist site), A Sinner’s Guide to the Evangelical Right is the blog for the book of the same name. [...]
