Top ten things heard by Christians
On his list:
“We have spent our whole lives trying to protect our children from this kind of secular garbage. We entrust you with our kids and you fill them with this? I can not believe that you would let our son watch this. Sports are vile, aggressive and promote competition among Gods people.
Said to me by a father after his 16-year-old son watched a college football game at my house.
The rest are in his blog entry.
The comments section has more:
After I lost a baby
“Oh well Lord knows that wasn’t a planned pregnancy! So, it’s really good that you lost this baby. God sure knows what He’s doing!”
These are all posted by Christians - which reassuringly shows that at least some Christians realize they are not the smartest or best responses to a situation!

1An amazing collection of quotes! I think my favorite was the one he gave “honorable mention” to:

2I can relate to the one about youth camp. I chaperoned a group of 8-year-old girls for one week once and I swear I’ve never worked so hard in my life. Talk about exhausting!
That was anything BUT a vacation. :-)

3I’m really confused by the emailed in example from cynthia:
Wasn’t the stupid thing done by Cynthia, not the pastor? The pastor was just doing his job, Cynthia was the one who chose to insult her relative.

5I can actually understand a Christian not wanting their child to watch football. It is pretty violent.
I also feel the same way about encouraging excessive competiveness. (Is competition encouraged by Jesus in the Bible?)
And then sometimes when they thank God if they score. What’s that about? If I were a Christian I would definitely find that offensive.
But it would make more sense to tell other parents the type of programming you don’t want your children exposed to in advance, rather than waiting until the damage is already done.

6cautiousmaniac I wondered that too - I was also unconvinced it was appropriate to blame the pastor when it was Cynthia who jumped up and showed her family member she had an agenda.
Laura, I take your point, but what’s more violent - a football game or the Bible? ;-)
