Book Review: Do You Believe?

Posted by Mike O on: 11.15.2007 /

Once again, my better half has provided this week’s topic for me. It’s a book review from the New York Times of Do You Believe? by Antonio Monda.

By the way, honey, I’m adding this to my Christmas list (Know what I mean? Know what I mean? nudge nudge? Know what I mean? nudge nudge? Say no more?).

(This is only tangentially relevant but I thought it was funny)

The other day my husband was saying to me that recently my daughter said she wasn’t sure what she wanted for Christmas.

Not long after he said to her “We might have thought of something to get you for Christmas” which she responded to with “Is it on my list?”

He, surprised, said “I didn’t think you had a list!”

At which point my son chimed in with “Dad - everyone has a list!”

    From the article:

It is hard to imagine anyone taking Mr. Monda for a fanatic. He has the gift of pressing a point, then stepping back and letting others have their say. These are highly distilled interviews, but the editing reflects a scrupulous respect for those being questioned.

I like this - it sounds like Monda uses and role-models the kind of respectful interview techniques that lead to dialog rather than debate.
