What demented humor. I’m sure that there is a special place reserved for you in eternity and for all those who have the audacity to take the gamble of denying God. But you are too clever to fall for that God stuff as if denial changes anything. You are and your ilk are to be pitied! And the payment for your insolence will be spent in eternity. Deny that also and see if it, too, goes away.

I liked this one … “Im in ur egypt eating ur vegetables and pharoahs”

    It just sounds funny!

Ron, if a muslim said to you,

I’m sure that there is a special place reserved for you in eternity and for all those who have the audacity to take the gamble of denying Allah. But you are too clever to fall for that Allah stuff as if denial changes anything. You and your ilk are to be pitied! And the payment for your insolence will be spent in eternity. Deny that also and see if it, too, goes away.

Are you any more likely to turn to Islam now than you were 30 seconds ago? Or are you even more entrenched in your Christianity? I can feel you bristling at what I’m saying already, and I’m a fellow believer, not an atheist.

The way you’re reacting right now is the same way non-Christians react when when we Christians do what you just did.

Be careful how you treat people, Ron. Christians are a big part of the reason why people don’t believe in God.

    Ron,

Thanks for visiting this blog. I hope you stick around and contribute to the conversation.

I can’t say I respond positively to drive-by hecklers. You’re likely to get as much respect here as you’re currently giving me.

This is meant as a light-hearted post, with humor that is intended in good-nature. I specifically chose images that I felt didn’t cross the line.

Now, you may think that I have no business, as a nonbeliever, taking part in humor about religion. As a human being, I’ve got to say, to ignore any aspect of human life as a subject of humor is to put human folly up on a pedistal and call it sacred. All aspects of human life are ripe with the foibles of humanity, and in my opinion, as long as the reader is aware that the laugh is on all of us, then we should be able to look at ourselves and laugh. All of us with a flabby paunch should chuckle ruefully at the image of Adam and know that the joke is on us… and that’s okay.

Ron, I do not deny the existence of God. I simply am unconvinced of the existence of God.

Be aware, this is a blog where believers and nonbelievers alike come together to discuss these things, as part of a very interesting experiment in Christian outreach. I hope you can find something of worth to you here.

In my book, this is a good example of why I steer clear of Christianists. They’re self-righteous, humorless assholes.
If they’re an example of “God’s way of living” then they and God can shove it, ’cause I sure don’t want to hang around in a “Heaven” filled full of people like that.

Ah, one those “is this for real?” moments again. Real zealot or prank? For the sake of the argument, I’ll assume you’re sincere. To Rev. Dan, I know what you mean but I think it’s dishonest to pretend all Christians, or even most, are as bad as Ron here. The public and yet anonymous nature of the internet tends to attract the zealot type disproportionally, which can sometimes leave the false impression that at least half of the population on earth is nuts.

Ron, my immediate reaction to people like you is to burst out laughing. I’ll readily admit I’m not the naturally kind guy like Hemant Mehta is. (Hemant, if you aren’t actually naturally kind, I admire you even more for keeping your cool.)

Hm, I have difficulties expressing what I want to say in a manner that doesn’t sound condescending. Please bear with me. Ron, I think you should reread your post carefully and ask yourself why people like me think it’s funny, in an admittedly slightly mean-spirited way.

It’s like this: Most (almost all?) atheists are perfectly aware of the point I think you’ve tried to make. You are absolutely right: If your God does in fact exist, it would be foolish to deny his existence. Come on Ron, you should at least know that atheists value logic quite a bit, and are thus perfectly capable to reach the same conclusion you did: If the Christian God exists and certain parts of the Bible are literally correct, we will forever burn in Hell for our non-belief.

Logic is a very powerful tool in that it actually allows us to prove or disprove sound statements with absolute certainty. The problem is, though, that this only works if the premises are true. In this case, one of the premises is that Christianity (or your brand of it, I might add) is in fact true. You know where I’m getting at?

Your argument is obvious to you, because it relies on a premise you hold self-evident. But atheists don’t deny the existence of a god out of some mean-spirited desire to annoy Christians like you. We just don’t think it’s true. OK?

Now to the “fun” part. I hate to sound like an armchair psychologist, but your comment reveals a lot about yourself and the state of your own faith. You actually expressed, indirectly but very thinly veiled, your hope that people like Hemant or me are going to rot in Hell for eternity. You didn’t actually say “Hell” but “special place”, but we both know perfectly well what you meant. Now the thing is, the threat of hellfire doesn’t really have much of an impact on atheists because it’s simply not part of their belief system. It doesn’t really mean anything to us. It does, however, mean something in your belief system. And I find it astonishing that someone who actually believes this stuff would wish, even hope, to see any person — a person he neither met, nor caused him any harm — endure a punishment this severe; for eternity no less.

Note that whether you are right or not is not the issue here. Even if you are right about atheists going to Hell, the problem remains that you did actually express your hope that I and my fellow atheists would have to endure eternal torment. Just step back for a moment and think about it. Which kind of person would enjoy a thought as monstrous as that?

Finally, my favorite part is your use of the word “gamble”, because I feel you let something slip here. Why do you think it’s a gamble? Of course I’m not sure, but it does sound as though you simply believe atheists are stupid for betting on the wrong horse, with the worst possible consequences.

Could it be that your faith is less than absolute? I hope (I honestly do) your belief in God depends on more than Pascal’s Wager (look that up if you want to learn how not to debate atheists). Because if this is really the basis of your faith, you’re the one to be pitied. For real, not just rhetorically.

Bah. Sorry for the length. I hate to come off as a lecturer, but I suppose it was unavoidable. Ron, I just hope you read at least some bits of what I was trying to tell you. After all, you’ll have to learn a lot if you want to debate atheists successfully!

Good luck. You’ll need it. :D
