As I transitioned from Christian to atheist I’ve changed the definition of God. I use to say omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. All powerful, all being, all knowing in other words. Now I say god is a myth. As I had hundreds of discussions during that time I’ve tried to hear how others define God. How do you?

What I have always thought in the back of my mind is what will happen when Muslim families gets to be the majority in a certain part of the US. Let’s say Dallas, Texas gets a public high school that has 55% muslim students. When they say the Pledge of Allegiance one kid alters the Pledge and says “one nation, under Allah, indivisible…” . I think this will give Christians a real insight what it’s like to be a minority. I’m just using this is as an example.
A second example would be where a public school allows a 1 minute of silence. During that minute some kids may pray including Muslims getting on the floor or a mat, facing Mecca and bowing. I don’t think we are really too far off in reality from this happening.
I’m currently reading, “Why I am not a Muslim” by Ibn Warraq. I just found a critique from a Muslim scholar of the book. The scholar was Catholic and converted to Islam.
I came here to be a participant in helping the majority of Americans to see the view of one minority, atheism. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be African-American and still do wonder about certain things. I’d like to take this time to hear what we have honestly learned from each other. There were several people I really went at lengths to in order to understand. One of them was off-line and we basically thought pretty much the same but everything from his perspective was from God and mine from humanity. The starting point was the only real difference. My biggest gain from this experience was learning how much stigma is attached to the word fundamentalist. I plan to use that word very cautiously in all future conversations. So my question to each of you is what specifically have you learned from someone who has a different view on religion? If anyone thinks of a topic that they still need clarification on please list it and tell us where you plan to discuss it on the discussion board so we can hear each other out in detail.
