It’s been real…

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

…and it’s been fun… but here’s my final blog entry for all of ya. I think this should be a fun one. (Unlike my last post… sorry about that one, I just really wanted to hear from folks on that…)

If you could do ANY one or two things to make the world a better place, what would they be. Forget about expense, time, or any kind of obstacle that might stand in your way… Imagine for a moment you have unlimited resources, help, and time.

Let those minds wander. Let’s hear your ideas.

This guy really takes the cake.

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Let’s talk about hatred today, shall we? Some of you have heard of the “Reverend” Fred Phelps. Here’s his web site. Take a good look at it.

Yes that is really his web address. Not his name, not the name of his church, just the name of his cause against homosexuals.

Phelps is a guy who is actually actively protesting so many of our veterans funerals that several states have passed a law against those demonstrations. For the record, in case you don’t gather it by reading his web site, he does NOT believe that “God loves everybody” or that “God hates the sin, and not the sinner.”

Phelps writes “Perceiving the modern militant homosexual movement to pose a clear and present danger to the survival of America, exposing our nation to the wrath of God as in 1898 B.C. at Sodom and Gomorrah, WBC has conducted over 22,000 such demonstrations since June, 1991, at homosexual parades and other events…”

We live in a nation that treasures freedom of speech, which means we have to grant this guy space on the internet, et al… We live in a society which many believe is becoming “relativistic” which means that somehow, if I’m “right”, then so is Phelps.

Absolute tolerance would mean “tolerating” this movement, it would mean tolerating the intolerant.

Thoughts?

Mystery and Wonder

Mystery…

I think it is what makes life interesting. Things we kinda understand but can’t really explain.

I’ve been married to my wife for 20 years (almost) and I still find her mysterious and fascinating in so many ways. Obviously, for me, the mysteries of faith are compelling. Beliefs like the trinity, the “magic” of the crucifixion and resurrection, the miracles of the Bible, things like that. There’s so much in there that I don’t totally understand. I think it makes it more compelling, not less…

Even without faith in a supreme being, there are some real mysteries in life. Yes, you can explain how man, over the centuries, bred wolves to become dogs, but that doesn’t lessen how cool I think it is that I have two “animals” that live in my house and apparently love me.
